Phill Rigby first surfaced back in 1988 (literally, having been a diver and a submariner in the royal Navy for 12 years previously). On a winter sports holiday in Val d'Isère, Phill realised he had found his passion in life, and has spent the majority of his winters in Val d'Isère ever since. Working his way up from Plongeur to Moniteur, Phill qualified to teach in 1992. He has achieved the highest teaching qualification available to instruct and was British Masters Champion in Giant Slalom and Slalom from 2002 to 2007. Phill joined MM Race Team in 2022 and with his patient and confidence instilling approach, enjoys nothing more than sharing his passion of the sport with our junior racers.
Ben Arkley
A lover of all sports from an early age, Ben was a regular on the dry slope racing circuit from childhood through to his mid teens in the UK, before starting his career as a ski instructor/coach at the age of 18. He has now spent around 30 years working across Europe, North America and New Zealand, with the last 20 years also training instructors as a BASI Trainer. Ben currently coaches the Swadlincote Arrows dry slope team in the summer, combining his racing background with his experience coaching skiers of all ages.
Having recently completed a degree in Osteopathy, Ben has developed a strong understanding of movement, physical development and how the body works. This adds another dimension to his coaching and helps him work effectively with both children and adults. He particularly enjoys coaching kids and believes that skiing should be fun, relaxed, and something that they want to come back to, while developing the skills and confidence in order to enjoy it!
